Liberty Grad Tre Fulton Named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. Liberty High graduate Tre Fulton’s strong start to the 2026 season is already earning recognition at the conference level.

The UNLV safety was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Rebels’ 21-6 road victory over Hawai‘i.

The honor comes one day after Bakersfield Sports Network highlighted Fulton’s fast start through UNLV’s first two games. The Bakersfield product has already totaled 18 tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss and two pass breakups this season.

Against Hawai‘i, Fulton turned in one of the best performances of his college career, finishing with a career-high 12 tackles, including eight solo stops, one sack, a forced fumble and a pass breakup.

One of his biggest plays came late in the third quarter with Hawai‘i facing third-and-goal. Fulton broke up a pass in the end zone that was initially ruled a touchdown before being overturned to an incompletion. Hawai‘i ultimately settled for a field goal.

Fulton helped lead a UNLV defense that kept Hawai‘i out of the end zone and allowed just six points in the victory.

The Mountain West honor is the first weekly conference award of Fulton’s career and adds to an impressive opening two weeks for the former Liberty Patriot.

Fulton appeared in all 14 games for UNLV last season, recording 33 tackles, four pass breakups and a forced fumble. Just two games into 2026, he has already collected more than half of last season’s tackle total while emerging as a major piece of the Rebels’ defense.

Before arriving at UNLV, Fulton was a three-year varsity standout at Liberty, where he played both safety and wide receiver and helped the Patriots compile a 33-8 record during his high school career.

Now, the former Patriot is beginning to make his mark at the Division I level.

Two games. 18 tackles. Two sacks. Two tackles for loss. Two pass breakups. And now, Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week.
