Week 3 High School Football Scoreboard: Statement Wins Highlight Full Slate
Week 3 of the high school football season put several of the area’s top teams to the test, including multiple matchups featuring undefeated teams putting perfect records on the line.
By the end of the weekend, Liberty, Ridgeview, Shafter, Foothill and Kennedy remained unbeaten, while Bakersfield Christian delivered one of the biggest statement wins of the young season.
Thursday Night
Garces Memorial 47, Tehachapi 0
Garces opened the Week 3 slate with a dominant road performance on the mountain, shutting out Tehachapi 47-0.
Quarterback Markis Gomez was nearly perfect through the air, completing 15 of 17 passes for 237 yards and four touchdowns. Gomez completed 88.2 percent of his passes as the Rams controlled the game from start to finish.
Kennedy 34, Mission Oak 28
Kennedy returned home for the first time since capturing the 2025 CIF State Division 3-A championship, and what was expected to be a celebration quickly turned into a test.
Mission Oak stayed within striking distance until the end, but Kennedy escaped with a 34-28 victory to remain undefeated.
It may not have been Kennedy’s cleanest performance, but the Thunderbirds found a way to win. The victory was also a milestone for head coach Mario Millan, who earned his 75th win at Kennedy.
Chowchilla 54, West 0
Chowchilla spoiled West’s home game with a 54-0 shutout.
The loss dropped West to 0-3 to begin the season, while Chowchilla improved to 3-0.
Friday Night
Liberty earns huge road win
Liberty 20, Oaks Christian 17
Liberty faced one of its biggest tests of the young season and came home from Southern California with a 20-17 victory over Oaks Christian.
The Patriots improve to 3-0 and now have to turn around quickly for another major matchup.
Liberty hosts Buchanan on Thursday night in Bakersfield, giving the Patriots a short week to prepare for another Central Section contender.
Bakersfield Christian makes a statement
Bakersfield Christian 28, Clovis West 7
Bakersfield Christian welcomed one of the Central Section’s top-ranked teams to Bakersfield and delivered a convincing 28-7 victory over Clovis West.
The Eagles trailed 7-0 late in the second quarter before completely flipping the game in the final minutes of the half.
Dennis Perry returned an interception for a touchdown, and after Bakersfield Christian forced Clovis West to punt on its next possession, RJ Shehee took the punt back for another score.
In a matter of minutes, BCHS went from trailing to taking control of the game.
The Eagles never looked back.
Ridgeview wins battle of unbeaten teams
Ridgeview 45, North 24
One of the most anticipated local games of Week 3 featured two 2-0 teams as Ridgeview traveled to North.
Ridgeview left no doubt.
The Wolf Pack scored 45 points in a 45-24 victory, handing North its first loss and improving to 3-0.
Through three weeks, Ridgeview continues to establish itself as one of the teams to watch in Bakersfield.
Shafter defense dominates again
Shafter 31, Highland 0
Another matchup between undefeated teams ended with an emphatic result.
Shafter entered Friday 2-0. Highland entered 2-0.
The Generals walked away 3-0 after shutting out the Scots, 31-0.
Shafter has now allowed just 14 points through three games, with all 14 coming in its season opener against South. The Generals followed that performance by shutting out Tehachapi 29-0 in Week 2 and Highland 31-0 in Week 3.
Back-to-back shutouts have quickly made Shafter’s defense one of the biggest stories of the early season.
Foothill moves to 3-0
Foothill 24, Wasco 7
The family connection added another layer to Friday’s matchup between Foothill and Wasco.
Foothill head coach Chris Wedel and Wasco head coach Kyle Wedel faced off from opposite sidelines in what became the “Wedel Bowl.”
Foothill earned the 24-7 victory and improved to 3-0, continuing its strong start to the season.

Nordhoff handed Mira Monte a 35-7 road loss.
Independence 35, San Luis Obispo 7
Independence picked up a convincing 35-7 victory in its home opener.
Northgate 42, Frontier 28
Frontier made the trip north to Walnut Creek but fell to Northgate, 42-28.
Granite Hills 56, Delano 8
Granite Hills put together one of the highest-scoring performances of the week in a 56-8 victory over Delano.
California City 14, McFarland 9
California City held off McFarland for a 14-9 victory.
Centennial 27, Edison 6
Centennial broke into the win column with a 27-6 victory over Edison.
Taft 35, Santa Maria 0
Taft remained unbeaten with a dominant 35-0 road victory over Santa Maria.
Chavez 13, East Bakersfield 12
One point separated Chavez and East Bakersfield, with Chavez escaping with a 13-12 victory.
Golden Valley 70, Arvin 21
Golden Valley produced the biggest offensive total of the local Week 3 slate, scoring 70 points in a 70-21 victory over Arvin.
